A Message From Our President
Fàilte — and welcome to the Scottish Society of Wilmington
“Ar dualchas air adhart” — Carrying our heritage forward
The Scottish Society of Wilmington exists to celebrate, preserve, and share the rich heritage of Scotland and the enduring legacy of Scottish immigration in the Cape Fear region and beyond. Our mission is rooted in history, culture, and fellowship, but it is very much alive in the present—expressed through music and dance, storytelling and scholarship, celebration and remembrance.
Wilmington and the Lower Cape Fear region hold a special place in the Scottish-American story. From the earliest Highland settlers who arrived on the shores of the Cape Fear River to the generations who followed, Scots helped shape the character, values, and traditions of America and North Carolina. The Society is proud to honor that legacy while welcoming all who share an interest in Scotland—whether by ancestry, affection, or simple curiosity.
Throughout the year, we offer programs and events designed to educate, inspire, and connect: cultural demonstrations, lectures, commemorations, social gatherings, and partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations. We are especially committed to fostering understanding of Scottish history in North Carolina and to supporting projects that ensure these stories are preserved for future generations.
The strength of the Scottish Society of Wilmington lies in its members, volunteers, partners, and friends. Your enthusiasm, generosity, and engagement make our work possible. Whether you attend an event, lend your talents, support our initiatives, or simply follow along, you are part of this shared endeavor.
Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in the Scottish Society of Wilmington. I invite you to join us—learn with us, celebrate with us, and help carry forward the traditions, stories, and spirit of Scotland in our community.
Slàinte mhath,
Catherine Fort
